Barber Richardson grew up with flocks of wild budgies wheeling through the skies above her childhood farm – and has a love for these creatures which are not actually solitary, cage dwelling birds as they’re popularly known. In this portrait of ‘Alexander’, she has homed in on the figure of one budgie in the flock, its striking plumage emerging from the black background.
